Private tours for you and your group.
Every Pooh Trek is private to your family or friendship group.
Your guide travels with you throughout your private Tour; up to 4 guests in an MPV, or up to 6 guests in an SUV, with a professional driver. The tour price covers your guide, driver, and vehicle for the entire duration – per group, not per person. (See individual tours for specific timings.)
Your vehicle remains attended during all stops, providing a secure place for coats, bags, and souvenirs while you explore.
Pooh Trek offers:
Flexibility – Move at your own pace, spend longer at the special places that interest you, or continue when you're ready
Tailored itineraries – Tell us your interests and we'll plan a route through literary landmarks, scenic spots, and less-visited parts of the forest. If you're staying longer, we can arrange accommodation ranging from traditional cottages and B&B's to country hotels - even Cotchford Farm, the actual home where A.A.Milne, Daphne Milne and Christopher Robin lived during their time in Ashdown Forest.
Personal choices can feature:
Experienced local guides – knowledgeable about the area and committed to protecting Ashdown Forest's landscape for future generations.
Our approach has always been straightforward:
Leave only footprints, take only memories (and plenty of photographs)...
So if you're planning a visit to this unique and stunning part of Sussex, we'd be pleased to
show you around Ashdown Forest.
I'm Gerry, Co-Founder and Head Guide at Pooh Trek Tours. Like many people, I grew up with A.A. Milne's stories of Winnie-the-Pooh's adventures, and a generation later had the pleasure of reading these same tales to our four children.
Since 1987, I've lived near Ashdown Forest in the High Weald, walking and exploring its 6,500 acres of heathland and ancient woodland. It's true to say that no two consecutive days in the forest are quite the same – the light changes, wildlife appears, the landscape shifts with the seasons.
Whether you're visiting with children or young-at-heart and long-time Pooh enthusiasts, or you're simply curious about the place, we aim to make your visit worthwhile. We understand this may be your only chance to see this protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in southern England.
Our approach is straightforward: we want our guests to explore the forest and learn about this unique, ancient place – and along the way, discover the actual landscapes where Christopher Robin, Winnie-the-Pooh and his animal friends created their adventures - from which the stories were penned by Alan Milne and drawn by Ernest Shepard.
Our guides take responsibility for making your day in Ashdown Forest informative and enjoyable. Every tour is private – conducted in a chauffeur-driven and professionally licensed vehicle, solely for your family or group.
Perfect Day Trip from London – Just One Hour Away
If you're visiting London and want something ‘different’ from the usual attractions, Ashdown Forest makes an excellent day out – especially if you're already fans of Winnie-the-Pooh.
Our map shows the journey: direct trains from central London reach the Sussex market town of East Grinstead in under an hour. Crowborough station (also home to Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, though that's another story) is only slightly further. Rather than sitting in London traffic, the train journey is straightforward and lets you relax in comfort.
We meet you at the station with refreshments, and we're ready to go.
Getting Here by Train
You'll need to purchase your own return train tickets to your departure station (we're happy to answer questions about booking). We recommend Southern Railway, with DIRECT services from London Victoria to East Grinstead – or from London Bridge if you’re staying in the east or south of our Capital city. Choose whichever suits your London location.
We typically meet you at East Grinstead station around 10:45am on your tour day (or another time if confirmed in writing). This timing means you can travel during off-peak hours (after 9:30am weekdays, anytime weekends), when trains are less crowded, and fares considerably lower than peak-time prices.
From the moment we collect you from your train, we'll take care of the rest.
